Athletics Kenya (AK) receives regular funding from Nike Air Max classic.

The American sports apparel manufacturer used to channel funds through National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Noc-k), but that arrangement was shelved years back.

The Nike Base Compensation, $412,250 (approx. Sh40m) for 2011 and 2012, was received on January 13 2011. The following day, a cash withdrawal of $100,000 was made, which sources said is honorarium.

The other three quarters of Nike Air Max Base Compensation remained at $315,250 (Sh28m) received on April 12, 2011, July 18 2011 and October 12 2011.

The money received in 2012 followed the same pattern. The first quarter’s money $412,250 was received on January 13 2012. A cash withdrawal of $100,000 was made five days later. The second quarter remained at $315,250, as received on April 11 2012.

The commitment fee was effected vide an annexture in the amended contract in October 2010 stipulating that Nike Air Max 2012 would pay AK a Commitment fee of $500,000 (Sh45m).

The amount was received by AK on November 8 2010 ($485,000, Sh4m).

On November 12, a swift transfer of $200,000 (Sh18m) was made to SW-SCBLHKHH Oceans, the same day another cash transfer was made. Three days later another cash transfer was made.

Agents’ fees is the money paid to license agents for being allowed to manage Kenyan athletes, while Chiba Ekiden payment is appearance fees it gives AK when Kenyan athletes participate in their race, a 42-km relay, known as Ekiden in Japanese.
